Poems from the Typewriter Series

by Knott Gregson, Tyler

A gorgeous collection of poems from internet phenomenon Tyler Knott Gregson: The epic made simple. The miracle in the mundane.

Based on his wildly popular Tumblr blog, Chasers of the Light is a beautifully designed volume of poetry from photographer Tyler Knott Gregson. The collection features Tyler’s simple yet poignant poems typed onto found scraps of paper, or created using a blackout method on magazines and newspaper pages.

And he’s clearly struck a chord—each poem he posts immediately garners hundreds, often thousands, of Tumblr notes. With more than 220,000 Tumblr followers and 127,000 Instagram followers, Gregson, whose fans call him “The Ryan Gosling of Poetry,” is truly a poet of the digital age. He taps into readers’ romantic fantasies with his sensual, insightful, and beautifully worded poems, capturing the raw realities of the feelings we often can’t articulate:

One day, while browsing an antique store in Helena, Montana, photographer Tyler Knott Gregson stumbled upon a vintage Remington typewriter for sale. Standing up and using a page from a broken book he was buying for $2, he typed a poem without thinking, without planning, and without the ability to revise anything.

He fell in love.

Three years and almost one thousand poems later, Tyler is now known as the creator of the Typewriter Series: a striking collection of poems typed onto found scraps of paper or created via blackout method. Chasers of the Light features some of his most insightful and beautifully worded pieces of work—poems that illuminate grand gestures and small glimpses, poems that celebrate the beauty of a life spent chasing the light.

Tyler Knott Gregson is a writer, photographer, and artist who lives in Helena, Montana. A graduate of the University of Montana’s Liberal Arts program, Tyler writes with a Whitman-esque appreciation of nature, life, and the miracles in the mundane.

Tyler Knott Gregson's Poetry Cracks Best-Seller Lists - The poet and photographer in Helena, Mont., has a best-selling volume of poetry, thanks in part to fans online...

Review: Wall Street Journal

With over 30,000 Facebook fans and more than 100,000 Tumblr followers, Gregson has definitely hit a nerve with his short-yet-poignant pieces. In an age of goofy Vine videos, memes and Instagram dinner-plate photos, poetry seems an unlikely addition to the community of web shares and posts. Gregson’s poetry, though, isn’t about flashy design or snappy humor. To read the comments on his blog and Facebook pages, it’s plain to see that his words genuinely resonate with his fans.

Like many people I know, I fell in love with Tyler Knott Gregson’s poetry via Instagram. Maybe it’s the allure of his Typewriter Series (awesome poems and quotes typed on vintage-looking parchment paper) or the fact that he posts just about every day so people always have something to see, but in the end I think it’s his raw talent for striking the chords of emotion within us that keep us coming back.

Review: The Blonde Vegan

His Haikus inspire in their simplicity because it has become rare to find beauty in the mundane. His poems are capturing in their tone and in the way he utilizes his words. His photography is simply breathtaking, to say the least.
